Schechter Middle school students in grades 6-7 produced several winning five- to seven-minutes documentaries for C-SPAN’s annual video competition on an issue of national importance. In 2017, students were challenged to answer the question, “Your message to Washington: What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?”  SSDS students were recognized among more than 5,600 students in 46 states, Washington, D.C., the Virgin Islands, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates who submitted a record number of 2,903 films to C-SPAN this year. Each year, students work in teams or as individuals to address a wide range of public policy issues from equality and the economy, to the environment and education.

In 2016, our students tackled the question, “Road to the White House: What’s the issue you most want candidates to discuss during the 2016 presidential campaign?”
