SSDS is the only Jewish Day School in Bergen County to have earned the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS) accreditation, a gold standard. SSDS is also accredited by the Middle States Association, and is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.  These accreditations reflect SSDS’s excellence and high professional standards in all aspects of academic life, from vision and curriculum to faculty and structure.

Standardized Test Scores

The median score of SSDS 8th graders has consistently been in the top 2-4% nationwide in the Terra Novas over the last three years.  In addition, on a school-wide basis (3rd – 8th grade), 75% scored in the top 6% in the nation in 2017. The Terra Novas are a series of standardized achievement tests used in the United States designed to assess K-12 student achievement in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, vocabulary, spelling, and other areas. SSDS 8th graders have achieved a Mean Grade Equivalent score of 13 — the highest possible score — in all subject areas and overall every year over the last three years.

Awards and Competitions

In 2017, SSDS Middle School students earned two honorable mentions in the C-Span national video documentary competition. For the previous four consecutive years, students also have earned honorable mentions or better.

Stock Market: First Place in the Securities Financial Industry Markets Association (SIFMA) regional competition. Schechter continues its six-year winning streak in the Stock Market Game, a financial literacy competition sponsored by SIFMA. SSDS also finished first in the fall 2016 northern New Jersey short-term regional game, and in the state-wide version of the same contest, finished fifth out of 1,270 participating teams; the top four earners were high school students. In 2015-16 (out of 6,000 teams) SSDS garnered three first-place wins and two second-place spots and have been designated as winners for five straight years. SSDS became the first Middle School to win in the Capitol Hill Contest in 201-14, and an SSDS Lower School student finished 1st and 2nd in two competitions in 2015-16.
