Our Design Thinking Lab
Schechter’s IB design lab and class introduce students to the “design thinking” process used in creative innovation – ranging from consumer-product engineering to digital app development. Students utilize the IB Design Cycle to learn the fundamental steps of analyzing a problem, generating and evaluating alternate solutions, building a prototype, and evaluating its effectiveness.
In addition to gaining exposure to such design skills as brainstorming, interviewing, and project planning, students develop skills to support their work in Middle School and beyond: collaborating with peers, making oral presentations, giving and receiving feedback, and reflecting on their progress and output.
The IB Middle Years Programme requires all candidate schools to create and implement a design course, which represents the essence of the IB philosophy:
