Colonial
Shoemaker _____________________________________________________ |

The shoemaker or cobbler always had work to do. Colonial people did a lot of walking so they would wear out their shoes faster. The shoemaker would mend old shoes or make new shoes. Right foot or left foot? It really didn't make a bit of difference. Shoemakers made shoes that fit either foot. Sometimes the local shoemaker would be in competition with the merchants in the colony who would import ready-made shoes from factories in England. The shoemaker always wanted to show the people that his pair of shoes was best and cheaper. He wanted to stay in business. | ![]() A shoemaker making shoes. |
